Adjusted body weight = (actual body weight - ideal body weight)/3 + ideal body weight.
This should be used for obese patients when dosing drugs that should be given according to ideal body weight. The reason is that it takes into account the fact that obese patients have more vasculature than what their ideal body weight would give them credit for.
