Before a patient can go on cardiopulmonary bypass, heparin must be given. The target ACT is > 450 seconds. If a full dose of heparin is given (300 Units/kg) but the ACT remains low what steps should be followed?

1) Give more heparin (amount will depend on ACT result)and take another ACT after 3 minutes from re-dose.

2) If ACT is continues to be low give FFP. Alternatives to FFP are AT III concentrate or synthetic AT III
